- FIRST DATA’S LATVIAN BUSINESS DEVELOPS INNOVATIVE SOLUTION FOR THE ELECTRONIC PAYMENT CARDS INDUSTRY
Riga, March 20, 2009: First Data, a global leader in electronic commerce and payment services, has turned a new page in the history of payments processing in the Baltic countries. In the last three months, specialists at First Data have implemented an innovative payment card acquiring solution which has radically changed the daily work of public sector authorities, such as the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (RTSD), and public and private health insurance providers The solution makes it possible for public authority offices to accept card payments and process electronic health insurance cards through point of sale terminals. All these projects had one aspect in common: they required the classification of transaction data in accordance with public authorities’ accounting systems.

This is the first time that two leading financial institutions have co-operated to develop such an important piece of infrastructure in the region.

Riga, Latvia, 16 August 2006: One year ago, First Data International, a leader in electronic commerce and payments worldwide, announced its decision to acquire EuroProcessing International, a leading payment cards processor in Central and Eastern Europe. As a result, SIA Banku Servisa Centrs, the largest payment cards processor in Latvia and the Baltic countries, became part of First Data, changing its name and, with the support of a global company, significantly expanding the area of its operations.

Many of Europe’s leading banks believe legislation is inevitable
London, 19 June 2006: First Data International, a leader in electronic commerce and payment services around the world, today announced findings from a study of bankers’ attitudes and opinions on the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). The study reveals that the SEPA deadlines of 2008 and 2010 are a significant challenge for the industry. While preferring self-regulation, many of Europe’s leading banks expect the European Commission to legislate to ensure delivery of SEPA by 2010. -

Alongside with the well-known traditional payment cards issued by banks or loyalty cards issued by various merchants and service providers, also electronic gift cards are now available in Latvia. The first electronic gift cards are being offered to its clients by the cosmetics shops and parlours network Kolonna ( Baltic Cosmetic Holding ), in cooperation with subsidiary First Data International in Latvia, from December 15.

The campaign Kabatzaglis.lv (Pickpocket.lv) , which was prepared by ZOOM!, has won the golden award in 19th annual advertising festival EPICA , which in advertising circles is being equated to the Golden Palm of the Cannes Films Festival or the Golden Bear of the Berlin Films Festival. „Kabatzaglis.lv” received the award in the category of integrated communications campaigns .

On November 14, 2005, SIA Banku Servisa Centrs registered its new name, SIA First Data Latvia, with the Commercial Register of the Republic of Latvia, and the well-known in Latvia brand BankServiss has been replaced by the brand of the card processing leader First Data International.
